“Fair Food vs Street Food” at the OC Fair – Part 1

This summer I was lucky enough to be asked to be the emcee at the “Fair Food vs. Food Truck Chowdowns” at the OC Fair, in Costa Mesa, CA, which were held every Thursday, where a favorite Fair Food vendor is pitted against a Gourmet Food Truck, and a panel of judges who will decide whose entree is the best. They are judged on 3 Things: Taste, Presentation and Creativity.

The 1st Chowdown was held on:

The Judges

The Burger Joint

The Burnt Truck

The Judges were Chef/Caterer Phil Knoke of “OC Rock ‘n Roll Chef”,
Kevin Davis, a Food Blogger “kevinEats”,
Marian Bacol-Uba, a Tustin Food & Travel Blogger “Marian the Foodie”, and
Anita Lau, a Food Blogger “diary of a MAD HUNGRY WOMAN”.

We had a good size turn out to watch the competition! The Burnt Truck submitted their Western Burger, angus beef, american cheese, TBT BBQ sauce, bacon, and crispy onion strings, topped with a fried quail egg. Burger Joint’s contender was their Belly Buster Burger, which has a 13″ bun, 10 slices of cheese, 8 slices of tomato, 30 slices of pickle, and half a head of lettuce, weighing in at 4lbs. Both entries looked awesome!
